The Onion offers up a surprisingly "in-depth" comparative review of the Palm Treo 680, BlackBerry Curve 8300, and what must be the first Apple iPhone that has made it into the hands of the technical media. Well, flippers, actually. Must read for anyone giving serious thought to the fundamental usability issues that are preventing broad adoption of smartphones.

Read it and weep.

I think the reviewer ought to have looked at rugged devices that would work under such conditions.

Any electronic device without adequate protection will not survive when taken into the deep.

A camera for example would need to be enclosed within a housing to be used underwater.

It looks like my deadpan delivery backfired. Either that or yours did, Andrew, and the joke's on me!

By the way, if you didn't read to the end of the "review" the biggest groaner was correspondent Flappy the Dolphin signing off with "Drop by next week when I kick the tires of the new 2007 toasters."
